Start your walk from the north-eastern side of Piazza Federico di Svevia, take Via Auteri, pass in front of the Roman Springs ruins, you will reach the fish market of Catania. Here you will experience the lively and colorful atmosphere of “pescheria”, the food market of Catania.

From the fish market a staircase takes directly to Piazza del Duomo, with many baroque buildings and the Fountain of the Elephant, symbol of Catania. We strongly reccommend to visit the Duomo di Sant Agata, that houses the tombs of Belini and many Aragonese kings.

Then, walk aside the Cathedral and once arrived at San Placido church turn left towards Teatro Bellini, one of the most famous theatres in Italy. Lunchtime. Then through Via Antonio di Sangiugliano you will reach after some meters on your left Via Crociferi, a street that houses many baroque churches and convents. At the end of via Crociferi turn right and take Via Vittorio Emanuele. In some steps you will find on your right the Roman Theater.

The theater is hidden by a raw of houses, thus you will have to buy a ticket and enter the site to visit it. Then keep on walking along Via Vittorio Emanuele so you will reach by Via Quartarone, on the right, the Benedectine Monastery and Church of San Nicolò. Walking backwards along Via Vittorio Emanuele you will be back in Piazza Duomo, the true heart of the city, the best place to enjoy the end of the tour in one of the many cafes or restaurants, Those who want to go further in exploring Catania, for sure have many sites to visit and enlarge the tour. Churches, Palazzo Biscari, public gardens of Villa Bellini, Piazza Mazzini are just some steps away from the center and deserve a visit. Shopping enthusiasts will be happy to finish tour in Via Etnea, the shopping “boulevard” of Catania.
